Letters

One of the most significant moments of the Encounter is the cards and letters that a man receives from his family and friends, telling him what he means to them.

We realize that this can be a very emotional experience for you as a letter writer as well.  While we hope the man has been a source of joy in your life, and writing a heartfelt, encouraging letter will come easy, we realize this is not always the case and there is sometimes deep pain associated with the relationship.   By the time a man has received his letters on Sunday morning, transformation has often occurred and he will not return the same man that he came.  In fact, if a man leaves early and aborts the process of being broken and transformed, he receives no letters.

With this in mind, we never ask anyone to provide phony or contrived sentiment in a letter.  Be honest in your communications and speak the truth in love.  However, this is a time to express optimism and even if the man has been a source of significant trauma and disappointment, it is a time to express our hope in what could be – even if what has been leaves little room for fond memories and thanks.

Letters are not greeting cards or platitudes.  They should be heartfelt expressions that dig deep.  The man in your life will have dug deep all weekend and he will not return as he left.  This is a time, as much as possible, for building up and not tearing down.  For restoring rather than severing relationships.  For emphasizing the good and forgiving the bad.  We also realize that this may be the start of a journey of forgiveness and reconciliation and that your letter may reflect that.

While we welcome delivery of letters in person, we realize that this can be inconvenient in some cases.  You may use the button below to upload a scanned version of your letter as a PDF or JPG file and we will be able to print it out for delivery in hardcopy format at the event.  Our team has a printer onsite, and in most venues we have access to the internet, allowing us to download letters sent to us after the event begins. However, this is not always possible in some circumstances and we thus encourage you to deliver your letters to us a few days prior to the event.
